Kingyo Club ~my new joy~

Okay so I’ll admit I’ve been a little bored lately without my weekly Teen Wolf fix (haha), but now I’ve found some new dramas to watch ^o^ One of them is the ultra cute and romantic drama series Kingyo Club :3 I discovered this series on Tokyohive (my new best friend) because they had posted an update of the ratings on current series airing in Japan. A screen cap of the beautiful Kariya Yuiko (刈谷友衣子) caught my attention and I found myself looking this actress up as I hadn’t heard about her before. I clicked on her drama Kingyo Club and decided to give it a chance. I’m glad I did! ^O^ ☆彡

It’s a really sweet story about a first year student (Harukawa Koto) who gets bullied every day, because of her alcoholic mother who goes out with men for money and a third year student (Hiiragi Haru) who used to play basketball, but now spend his days idly after a misunderstanding about his friend’s girlfriend and him caught at a bad time.
However, one day Haru sees Koto being bullied by some girls from her class and decides to stop them. Koto is grateful, but the bullying continues. One day, Haru sees Koto on the school roof looking like she’s about to kill herself and panics. Luckily, Koto wasn’t thinking of that and as an apology for his mistake, Haru takes Koto out for a treat. On their way home, they stop at a goldfish stand and catch two goldfish. For a lack of anything better to do, they decide to start a goldfish club just for the two of them in an unused building behind the school. But as love begins to bloom between them, the bullying just escalates…

I started watching this drama without any subtitles, as it’s not based on a manga, but a mobile novel by Tsubaki Hana, not very many people know about it. But fortunately someone recently started translating the two first episodes (out of currently five) so I was able to understand better what was going on ^^; Thank you! I really like this drama and I love the actors (whom I’ve never seen before) who I think are doing a great job. Especially Irie Jingi, who plays Haru, gives a very believable performance as the lost youth, who doesn’t know what  to do with his life. The soundtrack is also surprisingly good; composed by Uchiike Hidekazu, a relatively unknown composer, he does a great job at giving the series the right mood of happy and sad and just that wonderful feel of romance in the air ♥  I can’t wait to listen to that soundtrack, who sadly isn’t out before the 31st of this month :( Buhuu~ But I’m sure it’s going to be great! I’m also in love with the theme song Kimi Dake  wa Hanasanai performed by Supernova (aka Choshinsei) a really lovely romance ballad song, who I find just perfect for this drama ^^

Another cool thing about this drama series is that as the episodes only last 2o minutes, a live segment runs afterwards with a host and a guest, who either answer to questions send in by the viewers or do polls to find out what people think of miscellaneous stuff about the drama. I think that’s a really good idea and fits well with our time, where nearly the most important thing is to get your thoughts and opinions heard as often and much as possible xD (Haha). So that’s also fun to watch ^o^ Supernova were also guests in one of the episodes and made a live performance of the theme song ;) That was quite hilarious to hear their thoughts on the shows and the comments. I hope that maybe Jingi or Yuiko will get to be the guests of the show too in one of the episodes to come ^-^

I find Haru’s and Koto’s relationship really adorable, as Haru really shouldn’t have anything to do with Koto as her senpai and a stranger too, but nonetheless he choose to help her. That’s just so sweet x3 And then there’s also the age difference :O It’s kinda rare to watch a drama where the lead character falls for a person that’s younger than himself. Isn’t it? Or is it just me who haven’t watched enough dramas? ^^; (Haha, I feel like I’ve watched quite many though…) And because this is a romance drama, of course that includes a triangle: Hiiragi Haru > Harukawa Koto < Motoi Takaya.

Motoi Takaya

I really dislike that guy Motoi from Koto’s class. He really doesn’t seem to care for Koto’s feelings at all. He’s never there to help her when she’s in trouble, but always come afterwards, when it’s too late. And then he just says things like: “You shouldn’t let them bother you”. Well, bro, it’s a little bit hard to do, when they trash her shoes in the trash bin, scribble over her books with death threats and pour both milk and paint on her clothes – jeez, that’s really something you just ignore!  –  Moron c_c And then he also goes spreading evil rumors about Haru, to make Koto dislike him (,,#゚Д゚) Shame on you Motoi! xD Haru is much more a man than you are!  (^▽^) (Okay I’ll stop my ditching now xD lol).

Apart from Kingyo Club, I’m also watching Ouran High School Host Club and IS ~Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei~ ^^Ouran is really crazy and funny, while IS is a very moving and quite thought-provoking. (If you want to read more about IS, my sister made a blog post about that drama) All three dramas are really good in their own way. Ouran I watch to laugh, Kingyo Club I watch to kya~ and IS I watch to think over life (^_~) It’s great with some variation ;P I like Kingyo Club so much I’m going to make a music video about Haru and Koto’s relationship. Will be posting it on my blog as soon as it’s ready, so look forward to that! ^o~ Well, that’s all for now, see you soon ^-^

Isn’t Kariya Yuiko just the cutest little thing you have seen for a long time? x3
She’s incredibly adorable ♥♥♥

  2. That drama seems nice :) I will definetly check it out. Ouran High School Host Club is my absolute favorite :3 Its so funny and adorable :3 I have seen it 4 times, and I’m now seeing it for the 5th time with a friend :p I own the dvd’s and I own most of the mangas :3 I’m just completly in love with it, I even have a huge wallscroll on my wall :3

Sorry about the spelling mistakes, I’m using my phone. I steped wrong on my foot yeasterday and I cant walk on my foot now TT-TT So now I’m stuck in the chair >n<

    • I’m glad you are interested in this drama :D It’s really good, but it’s hard to find. I will recommend Our Hour’s LJ ( for downloads with subs, so far 3 out of 5 episodes have gotten subtitles :) Hope you will like it ^o^ If you can’t see the post, you will need to join their community first ;)
The Ouran High School Host Club drama series is really hilarious and has some hot guys too :P I’ve never watched the anime or read the manga, but I’m sure they are great as well ^o^ You sound like a big fan! So you should definitely check out the drama too ;D

I’m sorry about your foot, hope it heals soon! Dx Meanwhile watch some dramas ^^

  3. I have been interested in dramas for a long time but I haven’t really watched a lot. Have you seen Absolute Boyfriend?? I have seen the first episode. I absolutely love the manga the story is based upon :D It’s one of my favorites :3 Thanks for the link, that will make the search a lot easier :D

I’m a huge fan XD hehe, Ouran is just so funny. I just wished they would make a new season :3 Perhaps when the manga is finished they will make a continuation :3 I can always dream ^-^

I just watched TV that weekend. Didn’t even touch my laptop :o I’m a lot better today :D I can walk on my foot now :3 I almost died when I had to use crouches last Monday D: I’m still stiff in my upper body after using them. I’m so glad I could walk on my foot so I didn’t have to lift my whole body every time I needed to take a step, that I wouldn’t survive xc

    • You are welcome ^o^ No I haven’t watched Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi), but I know about it, just haven’t watched it :) But I know how you feel, when they don’t continue a good anime series… I feel the same way about Negima. Because first they released an anime who covers roughly the first seven volumes (today there are 34) and then the anime stopped. Then they actually came out with a new anime series, but this one just took the story back to the beginning all over again and told the story a little differently x_x; There are so many things they haven’t covered and it’s really a shame for the story is really good and a lot of cool things have happened since volume 7 :( So maybe we can dream together? ^-^;

I’m happy your foot is better. I can imagine it most be pretty hard to lift your whole body all the time :O So that’s great! :D Btw, have you checked out Kingyo Club yet? =D

  4. Its annoying when they don’t follow the manga, and when they only takes part of it. It’s the same with Tsubasa Chronicles. I really liked that series, and they just end it when it’s far from over. I mean come on. A little respect to the maker. They really should continue with them. It ok for them to take a break while they wait for the manga to progress for a while and stuff. It’s better to wait than to see a bunch of bad fillers!! In my opinion. I also really liked Negima, I haven’t seen the re-done version, planning to, have downloaded all the episodes ;P With Negima they should have enough material to continue, they properly didn’t make that much money with the series so it’s not on top priority xc It’s no fun when they do that. It’s the same with Dragon Ball Kai (recut and edit of the original dragon ball.), they just stop at the middle saga and don’t do the last part. I get the point that the original manga where supposed to stop there, but the mangaka continued the story for us the fans. And their excuse not to continue now is because they didn’t make enough money on the merchandise. + They wanted to focus on Toriko instead. A bit annoying for a Dragon Ball girl like myself :/ But that is ok, i have all the episodes on dvd so I can just continue to watch :3

It is, so I’m happy I didn’t brake my foot than I properly would have to wear a cast ;^^ Yesterday I could where both my sneakers :D The swelling is still there and its sore, but I can walk almost freely on it and I can fit a normal sock on :,D yay.

I haven’t checked it out yet. I think I will see if I can download a few episodes at school ;) The net is a bit better here than at home ;) I feel like watching something today :D

    • Omg, I just realized that Ouran High School Host Club has a drama XO Is that the Ouran you are watching?? When I spoke I meant the anime cx hehe. I’m so going to watch that X3 I just had to say it, I almost flipped out in class ;)

    • Yeah sometimes I just wonder why it’s so hard to just follow the manga and do it to the end, so we can know the ending to the series >_o< I actually find the drama series better (lol) even though the acting is terrible (for the most part) and the effects and costumes are pretty bad too ^^; but at least it was entertaining :)

I hope you will watch Kingyo Club and Ouran High School Host Club ^^ They are both awesome dramas ;) And yeah I'm only watching the Ouran drama series (as I wrote earlier ^^;).

  5. Haha I know, shouldn’t be too hard. But I know it’s not easy to transfer from one type of media to another. Its often a bit limited what they can put in an anime, you always have to consider time and budget. So things get lost in translation so to speak, some will be good and some not so good. Seen this many times when it comes to making a movie based on a book.

I ended up watching all 7 episodes of the Ouran drama :D It was so funny, I just couldn’t stop watching X3 Can’t wait for the next :D I also want to watch the anime again now :P I keep seeing the anime scenes :D They are missing some good scenes, but it’s funny none the less XD I watched 1 episode during lunch at school, and I had a hard time keeping myself from laughing to loud x) Downloading an episode of Kingyo Club as we speak :D Properly will watch 1 episode during lunch ;) Will just have to see, I really want to watch IS as well :D The series your sister talked about in her blog :D I just love the genderbending theme :D

    • I’m glad you love the Ouran drama too ^o^ Will have to catch up on it soon (have been away the last three days on a field trip with my new class) as well as IS and Kingyo Club ^^ I can only warmly recommend IS to you :3
      Watched Kingyo Club then? ^^

  6. Have just started watching this and came across your blog. I really love the story….. I want to have a sempai like him or a kohai like her who have their own good and cool points.

    • I love the story too! ♥ I have some pretty cool sempais on my campus, but yeah, would be totally awesome to have Haru as my sempai *o* Koto is just too cute x3 I’m happy you like the drama, it needs to get better known! So try spreading the word ne? ;)

  7. I saw this series by chance, don’t remember how, but once i started i saw all 7 episodes straight at the same time!! It was very good and touching, got very intense at the end of episode 7!!! really can’t wait to watch the rest i can’t even find it raw ANYWHERE!!!

Anyways why i’m REALLY commenting is to suggest everyone to watch Soredemo, Ikite Yuku. that one is very good and intense, acting is superb!!! i saw it all also at the same time, which i usually do the one episode a day but couldn’t :P very sad but not in the overly dramatic way
unfortunately only 8 episodes have been subbed out of 11 :( still waiting to see the ending.

    • Wee~ I’m so happy to hear more and more people are watching Kingyo Club. It’s such a good drama ♥ :D And I can tell you I’m excited as you don’t know what about episode 8 as well (episode 7 was just insane o_o) but also nervous… *gulp* >__<
Let's hope some nice people with post the next episode with subs soon xD

Looked up your drama suggestion. Sounds interesting :) But right now I'm following too many dramas at once, so I think I'll need to watch them first (lol) ^.^; But thank you for the information ;)

  8. I found this drama by accident and can’t believe how good it is. The story is nothing new but the actors are doing such a great job of portraying their characters. The romantic development is sweet; it brings back memories of previous jdormas with school settings. The main male lead is especially good, not to mention that he is very CUTE. Surprisingly, for a school drama, the story is getting very intense (I’m at ep. 7).

One thing I’m surprised at is how short each episode is. Do they actually show 30-minutes dramas weekly in Japan? I was so engrossed that I watched all 7 episodes nonstop.

This drama seems to be flying under the radar and I’m so glad Dramacrazy has it here. And…a big thank you to the subbers!.

    • Me too. I didn’t really expect anything; like each episode was only 20 minutes and the drama looked pretty low-budget, as well as the story just seemed a little too simple. But as I often do, I gave in to the cute actors ^^; But this time I’m so glad I did that! xD
They really do a good job at portraying their characters and I think it’s easy to believe in their acting. I’m especially impressed by Kariya Yuiko (Koto) who’s only 14 and haven’t really had any big roles before. I think she can become a really great actress if she chooses the right roles and fight for it ^o^

Well it’s not that common that dramas only show for 30 minutes, but then again Ouran also only last 30 minutes per episode n(^_^;)n

I’m also very happy it’s being uploaded on streaming sites such as Dramacrazy, so more people will get to know this drama. Before it was extremely unknown, which was such a shame. I really like this drama and the actors, so I hope it will get well received, so the actors can get more jobs and I can watch them in new roles ;)

Btw, what do you guys think about Motoi? xD

  9. wow, over a month and still no subs for episode 8, can’t even find any raw files.. =__=
btw, nice article! nice to see you put so much effort in it, i hope more people get to read it and watch kingyo club!

most doramas have pretty looking actors (well, for japanese standards :P) who lack acting skills. and i hate to see stickmen who act all stiff and stoic and mess up an interesting sounding story..

this dorama is a rarity, we got cute actors who can actually act! even that pretty boy mokoi portrays his role so well, i caught myself thinking i wanna kick his butt >_< i think i even smiled at the end of episode 7 (no spoilers :P).

i really hope someone's gonna sub this dorama, i don't know japanese well enough or else i'd do so D:

anyways, i like your blog! otsukare~

    • Thank you so much! It’s always nice to know people appreaciate one’s work :D it feels like quite some people have gotten to know this dorama after reading my post, so I’m really happy ^O^
I really hope someone sub the rest of this dorama soon too, as I’m afraid I’ll lose interest to watch the rest >< and now episode 7 was a real thriller I cannot wait to see what happens next xD
I'm glad you like the actors as well; I really hope they will get other jobs soon, because they clearly have talent and they are young so they should make use of their time to develop their abilities as actors ;)

  10. Hi! I just seen your blog…Yes Kingyo Club drama is so great..I can’t wait for the episode 8 to be sub. Anyone who knows where to get or download this drama with complete subs….Please………………………
