Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi ~10th Year Anniversary~

This year – 2011 – it’s exactly ten years since the masterpiece, that is Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, were released in Japanese cinemas. This movie was my very first Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki movie and is actually maybe one of the main reasons I got into Japanese culture. It’s one of my all time favorite movie and I’ve watched it countless times. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always felt this Ghibli movie was different from the other Ghibli movies. It’s probably more the animation style that’s different. I’m especially thinking about the character designs. Normally Ghibli characters have somewhat larger eyes, don’t they? I also think the characters look more Japanese and are more detailed than usually. This movie is really beautifully animated and I love the traditional Japanese setting, which captivated me immensely back when I watched it for my first time.

I also find it fascinating that Miyazaki Hayao intended to make a movie for 10-year-old girls, which is normally uninteresting for an older audience, and then it got to reach so many different age groups. Fantastic! :O I like how the movie treats the theme of identity search and how lonely and lost you can feel in that process. I think Chihiro’s a great character, as she’s first a spoiled and lazy girl who has yet to discover her true identity, but then accomplishes through an array of obstacles and various tests throughout the story. We watch her discover both the good and bad traits in the people around her and then her own good qualities which show more and more as the story processes. I think all people can relate to the feeling of being lost when rooming through the dark in the search of your identity and that’s probably why it’s such a good story. Normally kid’s movies focus on things like adventure, magic and maybe your first love interest, when the most important thing for most people that age actually is to search for one’s identity, isn’t it? Miyazaki is good at understanding people like that :) That’s probably also one of the reasons I love this movies so much. Of course they have great animation, but for me the best thing is definitely the stories’ messages. I really think his movies are for people in all ages ^o^

Now back to Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (btw, love the meaning of the title: Sen and the Mysterious Disappearance of Chihiro. It has a nice poetic sound to it hasn’t it?) I need to tell you about my love of Haku xD (Sorry, he was my first anime crush…) I really liked his mysterious intro, where he appeared to recognize Chihiro (but Chihiro didn’t recognize him) and then went out of his way to protect her ♥ Best intro ever!! Really left a big impression on me. I also loved his big green eyes and that funny “prince-like” haircut of his’ :P His seiyuu (Irino Miyuu) voice was also perfect, love how he talks a more formal old-fashioned Japanese which they used to talk at the emperor’s castle :O So cool! And then of course I loved the fact that he was both a dragon, god and a witch’s apprentice ( totally multi-talented! xD ) and also the fact that he was such a gentle and kind person towards Chihiro. I hope they got to meet again, as Haku promised Chihiro they would in the last moment between them in the movie. But it’s nice how Miyazaki made that “open” ending, making it up to the audience’s imagination to decide what will happen afterwards – just genious \(^o^)/ yay

Right now I’m just really wishing for a Blu-ray release from Pony Canyon. They have released like 8 out of 15 Ghibli movies (if you only count their major projects), so it’s about time they release Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi >< It’s the movie’s anniversary and all :(  And then I just really want to have the movie in Blu-ray and watch some more extras (would be amazing!) *sigh* I guess I’ll have to wait some more years though ;( I just think this wonderful movie deserves it! xD

GANTZ

I really can't wait for this movie to come out!

The movie is called Gantz and is a two part live-action adaption of Oku Hiroya's manga series by the same name.

Part 1 and 2 of the Gantz movie will be released in spring and winter of 2011.

It's such a long time >O<;,,, Sigh

I'm actually so inpatient that I've begun reading the manga xD (I'm at chapter 172 already! :O)

I'm so happy Nino is playing the main role Kurono – he fits those complex characters, and I think he will be able the play Kurono's selfish side perfectly. And then Ninomiya Kazunari is simply just a GREAT actor~ love him<3 ^O^

I think Kenichi Matsuyama and Natsuna fits Katou and Kei Kishimoto really well~ at any rate, they look like the manga characters! :D (I'm just curious about their fates in the movie compared to the manga *-*)

Hongo Kanata playing Nishi is just the best casting I've ever seen – is their a person who can play this dark and creepy character it's Kanata! xD I can't wait to see him in the movie<3<3

I think it's a little weird Sakurai and Yoshikazu is included in part 1 of the Gantz movies, as they appear much later in the manga. And the same with the vampire guys in the train scene (from the trailer). But I think the guy they casted to play Sakurai is really cute and fits the character really well :3 But I hope they include Sakata (Sakurai's sensei) now when Sakurai is in the movie :/

I think Yoshitaka is a okay choice for Tae, but I probably would have chosen another actor, but lets see… :)

I hope these characters will get appearances in either the first Gantz movie or the next xD The vampires are quite cool and Reika got to have a role in these movies!

There hasn't been released a full trailer yet of the first Gantz movie, but a teaser and a short trailer has been released :)

The movie looks amazing just from watching these short clips xD I'm so excited!~ It really looks like the vampires are included in the first movie by the looks of the train scene *O* This just doesn't make sense, as it's much later in the manga xD Oh, well they always have to mix the storyline anyway. I just hope it will be some good changes which make the movie work and not the other way around :/

In the last video the hosts say that all the actors needed to have 10 suits each and that each Gantz suits cost 5,000 USD! XD That's really crazy! :O But they also look very cool ;D I almost wanna try one myself  ^  ^

Even though the manga is very violent and sometimes too ecchi (for my taste xP) it's really an amazing manga with a very fast-paced storytelling~ ^ ^ And maybe it's sometimes not healthy for too sensitive souls >O< There's much death I tell ya @O@ But still it's a series you can't let go of as soon as one starts reading XD As it's very captivating~

サマーウォーズ [Welcome to the world of OZ]

Last Saturday I went to CPH PIX Festival (Copenhagen Film Festival) together with my sister and watched Hosoda Mamoru's acclaimed anime production Summer Wars. A lot of people came (even some Japanese!)  and we all had a great time in the cinema ;D

If you check one of my old posts, you know I've been eagerly waiting for this movie ever since news of it came out last year. Well, now I've finally watched it! ^O^ Woohuu!

02 Overture of the Summer Wars
Matsumoto Akihiko

I must say it was a really enjoyable movie! Of course I watched it because of Kamiki Ryunosuke to begin with (and heck did he do a good job!!) but the movie had so much more to offer! :O The animation was breathtakingly beautiful and the story itself was totally brilliant! The movie had so many funny scenes too, especially with the main character Kenji – and who doesn't love a little humor? ^ 3 ^  Some scenes were rather nerve-wracking too~ *O* But most importantly, the movie was exciting and entertaining all the way to the end :D Especially the scenes in the virtual world OZ were really fantastic! You just sat in the cinema and stared at the screen in amazement…( ! ) xD  (Heh) Well I sure did! ^  ^

Well the story starts with Kenji (Kamiki Ryunosuke), a 17-year-old high school student, being asked by his crush Shinohara Natsuki (Sakuraba Nanami) to do a summer job for her. He accepts at once, and of they are to Natsuki's grandma's 90th birthday celebration far off in the countryside. When they arrive he finds out he is to pretend to be Natsuki's boyfriend and fiancée! xD This leads to a lot of funny incidents ^ o ^ (keke)

While all is going pretty well, Kenji suddenly receives a mysterious message from an anonymous sender. The message is a long row of numbers and Kenji logically thinks it's a math problem. Because he is quite a math genius he solves it on one night and suddenly the virtual world of OZ (a parallel world which all communication and data is handled) collapse, and the evil project 'Love Machine' has begun :O

Now Kenji holds the responsibility for saving the whole planet from world destruction xD That's a lot of responsibility! (Haha)  But luckily he gets help from several members of the Jinnouchi family. Among them is Kazuma, a 13-year-old computer geek, who is better known as 'King Kazma' in the world of OZ – the unbeatable warrior xD

The first time we meet Kazuma I thought he was a girl XD His voice is so girly!! Probably to make it seem younger ^^ Still quite hard to get used to xD Still, he was a really cool character, very mature ^o^b Here's a piece of music from the soundtrack – you could call it Kazuma's theme ^ o ~ Love it!

As mentioned earlier, Kamiki did a great job at voice acting xD He really is one of my favorite Seiyuus! :D Even though his voice has become a little deeper it's still fantastically cute! He really made Kenji shine – I love him so much! <3 The other seiyuus were really good too. Very new and fresh ^  ^

Loved the very rowdy battle scenes with the whole family battling the OZ enemy 'Love Machine' (btw, this name is really comical ^o^ laughed so hard when one of the family members asked: "Like the Momosu song?" xD)

Well, they are playing against this monster xD

The game they played "Hanafuda" was really interesting :) Would like to play it some day.

And now to the ending scene ^O^

I really loved the cute and funny ending ~ totally hilarious ~ and just perfect! xD When Kenji yelled "daisuki!!" I could just die happy<3 I won't say any more ;D You have to watch it for yourself   ^ 3 ^

Here's the really nice ending song ^o^

19. Bokura no Natsu no Yume
Tatsuro Yamashita

The movie is getting an UK release (by MANGA UK) this year's September, so If you haven't watched this movie yet – don't waste your time!! xD

Right now, I can't wait to watch Miyasaki's new movie: "The Borrower Arrietty" (Arrietty no Kagurashi) which is based on the English classic "The Borrowers" by Mary Norten and will premiere in Japan this summer! (21th of July)

Here's a teaser preview trailer:

And here's the theme song performed by Cecile Corbel (wow French!)

So beautiful *  O*
